There isn't a universally better option — there's the right one for where your business is.

01Choose Shopify when

You want to sell quickly, manage products yourself, and rely on proven checkout, payments and apps. For most new D2C brands, it's the fastest route to a good store.

02Choose a custom build when

Your product needs a configurator, unusual checkout flows, deep integrations with your own systems, or a content-heavy experience that templates fight against. A custom Next.js site gives full control over speed and design.

Pick the platform your team can actually run on a Tuesday afternoon.

03Either way

You should own the domain, the store and the code or theme, with admin access in your name. We build on both, and recommend one only after understanding what you sell and how you'll manage it.
